First I have to apologise for not mentioning who took which photo in our lion-picture competition. JI took photo 1 and I took photo 2, so now the score is one all!
Today was a relaxing day. I slept in until 08:00, whilst JI got up an hour earlier to try his luck next to the river, but the tiger fish didn't bite. I started the day with some much-needed washing.
We have clean clothes again! |
Then came the exciting part! Kayanda, one of the Selous River Camp staff members, offered to cut JI's hair. The best part was the expression on JI's face right throughout the experience...
Almost done - JI get's a haircut |
I must admit, I'm very jealous of his short hair now! It must be so much cooler without that afro. And believe me, today was HOT!! Every now and then the sweat just starts running from one's skin.
Let us know in your comments what you think of JI's new look!?? |
After the African haircut session we decided to chill in the bar area. JI read his book whilst I took another mega nap. It was one of those really lazy African days where time stands still...and boy, I can't think of a much better place to chill...
Chilling in the bar area |
Whilst we were chilling the local wildlife watched us from the surrounding bush. First a troop of blue monkeys passed by and then a lone black and white colobus monkey. A striped-bellied sand snake and numerous monitor lizards also kept us entertained.
One of our neighbours in camp |
We ended the day with a game of Bao - a local game of Arib decent played throughout Africa. Kayanda taught JI how to play and after a while he got the hang of it and beat another staff member!
JI and Kayanda playing Bao in the bar |
Tonight we're having chicken fillets and potato dish, all prepared on the fire by JI! Tomorrow morning Kayanda is taking us to one of the schools in the local village where we plan to play football with the kids and donate a few balls. Should be fun!
Selous regards
Villiers
Highlight of the day:
Villiers: The slow pace of life in Selous...
JI: Getting rid of my hair...
Lowlight of the day:
Villiers: My cellphone STILL has no signal!
JI: Getting rid of my hair! :-)

Hi, julle!

Klink so lekker! Dankie vir die deel en ek hoop ek was verkeerd dat julle net een trop wildehonde in julle hele trip gaan sien, Selous is die plek, dalk, vir 'n tweede?
Wat doen julle re malaria? Drink julle die heeltyd pille? Of voorsorg...? Gebruik die locals nette?
Hi Wilma, ons drink malaria pille een keer 'n week en spuit natuurlik Peaceful Sleep. Die locals gebruik wel nette waar hulle kan. Kom ons hou duimvas vir wilde honde more oggend!
