Today was not particularly exciting. We spent the majority of it on the road between Livingstone and Lusaka, and I must admit, it's in a much better condition than I had anticipated! I could count the number of potholes on the 500-odd kilometres on one hand. The only bit of excitement, or rather disappointment, was when I was pulled over for speeding for the second time in three days - this time for doing 60 km/h in a 65 zone!! Yep, the accused me of doing 73, but I was definitely driving slow enough. But do you think I got out of it without paying? Think again... TIA - This is Africa. Just another character test on the Serengeti Trip 2011.
But let's concentrate on the good stuff, and more specifically on the sponsors that are making this trip possible:
Communication
First we would like to thank Sat4Rent, a company that sponsored our satellite phone, terminal and data, which allows us to post on this blog every single night, no matter where we are!
Villiers hard at work. He's typing a blog post with the help of our sponsored Sat4Rent terminal. |
Video footage
One of our favourite pieces of equipment is our sponsored GoPro Hero video camera. This amazing little camera allows us to get spectacular HD video footage from incredible angles - we can fasten it to our car, to our heads and even take it under water!
The GoPro Hero HD video camera can be fastened to pretty much anything! |
We would also like to thank Clive Morris Productions in Randburg for supplying a Sony HD video camera, tripod and enough videotapes for the whole trip! Our mission is to collect enough footage for a documentary on the trip, so watch this space...!
JI with the CMP video camera, ready to record an interview. |
Photographs
A special word of thanks to Outdoorphoto for sponsoring a Canon 100-400mm F4 IS lens for the duration of the trip. JI is using this lens and has already taken some great wildlife shots! It's the perfect lens for this trip.
JI uses the ODP Canon 100-400mm lens at Masuma Dam, Hwange. |
We will tell you more about each piece of equipment at a later stage, once we've used them all to their fullest potential. Thank you to everyone from Sat4Rent, GoPro South Africa, Clive Morris Productions and Outdoorphoto for the great support - Shana, Stephen, Daniel, Hedrus and everyone else - we really appreciate it!
Thanks also to everyone who's spreading the word about the blog, in particular WegRY and Moya Wa Tenga Safaris!
Last, but not least, we'd like to thank the Meyer-family in Lusaka for hosting us for the next two evenings!
Tomorrow is shopping day!
Villiers
Highlight of the day:
Villiers: The great tar road between Livingstone and Lusaka!
JI: The delicious plate of food we had tonight. Thanks Marlize!
Lowlight of the day:
Villiers: My second speeding ticket!
JI: Lusaka city centre's madness!

Hi Manne.
Groete, Kobus
