Welcome to the Serengeti Trip 2011 Blog

Welcome to the Serengeti Trip 2011 Blog! We designed this website so that we can keep you posted on planning, packing and progress of our massive 70-day trip through 6 African countries early in 2011. The trip starts 20 January 2011 in Pretoria, South Africa, and takes us north through Botswana, Zambia and Tanzania to the legendary Serengeti National Park! From there we will head back south through Malawi, another part of Zambia and Zimbabwe...

Before the trip we will post photos and information on our route planning, vehicle upgrades, packing, equipment, etc. During the trip we will post daily diary entries by means of a satellite phone, so don't miss out! We will be posting in both English and Afrikaans. Please become a follower on this blog and subscribe to our RSS feed.
Enjoy the journey!

DAY 26: Help us spread the word, please!

Today was our last day on the coast of Tanzania before we head north for what promises to be the most exciting part of our journey. Our plan is to sleep close to Africa's second-most famous mountain (after Table Mountain, of course!) ,Kilimanjaro, tomorrow evening. After that we'll visit Tarangire, Ngorongoro Crater, Serengeti and Lake Manyara - four of the country's best wildlife areas!

But first a look at what we got up to today...Valentine's Day:
JI and Villiers on 'our' beach
To our delight the sun decided to come out early today and stayed out for most of the day. Another bonus was the fact that the beach was virtually empty on a Monday, which meant we had it to ourselves for at least the first half of the day. Our day consisted of eating, sleeping, reading, tanning and playing with a tennis ball. O yes, we jumped a lot as well! (spesiaal vir jou, Tania Louw!)
Villiers looking about as graceful as a flying rhino!
Super JI
Yep, boys will be boys. I also tried to get some colour on my extremely white skin, but the heat was so intense I didn't last very long in the sun at all.
Villiers tries to get some colour
As the day progressed more and more visitors joined us on the beach. And with the visitors came the beach vendors. You can buy anything from sun glasses to marijuana right throughout the day, but fortunately the people that sell the goods are not as persistent as say, the guys that try to sell you Zimbabwean notes in Vic Falls.
This man sold coconuts
Throughout the day dhows, the local boats, would pass in front of our camp. It really is a special, very tranquil sight to behold:

Okay, now for a few answers to your questions:

Luiperds is 'n ander storie.

Please keep asking us questions and send those suggestions through! It's easier to post when we know WHAT you want to hear or see... :)

And now we'd like to ask you a favour. We want even more people to read our blog posts and for that we need your help! Please tell everyone you can think of who's not aware of www.serengetitrip.com about the website! Use Facebook, e-mail, twitter, sms's...ANYTHING! The most exciting part of our journey is around the corner, so now is the time to spread the word! Thank you very very much!!

Enjoy your day!
Villiers

Highlight of the day:
Villiers: Reading my book, The Elephant Whisperer, on the beach...and then falling asleep.
JI: Beating Villiers AGAIN in pool!

Lowlight of the day:
Villiers: Shocking myself whilst trying to plug a South African plug into a European one! (Still a klutz!)
JI: That I didn't beat Villiers 5 - 0 in pool!

Dit sit so bietjie perspektief in jou lewe.

Lekker man, die drie dae by die see lyk na behoorlik vakansie hou. Ek like die crazy beach-jumps! Tjirs, Frannie

Hi, julle 2!

Hoop julle sien sommer baie wild vandag!

Your Mom's right, your blog's a bit like a daily dose of a favourite miniseries! Just a few more cheesy lines and cliffhangers maybe...:) What are we going to do when it's over?
That coconut seller looks familiar - are you sure he wasn't Cuban? Or Vietnamese or Thai?!
Hope you tried a coconut?!
